Surabaya is chosen to be the host for 2014 Asian Fashion Week in Ciputra World Surabaya on August 15 to 16, 2014. President and CEO of Fashion Week Group, Arwin Sharma, in Surabaya, Monday, said that previously the venue for this event had been choosen in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. But due to the complaints of Asian and International fashion designers involving the lack of certain things, therefore, the venue was moved to Surabaya.

"Asian and international fashion designers have conveyed their complaints concerning the high cost, the length of time travel and flight availabilities to Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia," said Arwin. He regrets to say that he must relocate the country host, but he is sure that Indonesia, espacially Surabaya, is the right choice.
"Surabaya itself is not inferior to other cities. As the second largest city in Indonesia with a high capital income. And then Surabaya have Bungkul Park, its the best park in all of Southeast Asia and it is suitable to become the venue.

"This event is one in a series of events from the Group Fashion Weeks which also consist of Indian Ocean Fashion Week and Silk Road Fashion Week, World Islamic Fashion Week and World Indigenous Fahion Week," he said.
The purpose is to advance and integrate global fashion industry in several countries and to build international fashion business. The Asian Fashion Week is participated by almost every country in Asia and several from Europe.

The Tourism City of Ternate
Wednesday, 14 May, 2014 | 10:54 WIB
TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The central government, through the ministries of tourism and creative economy, education and culture, and public works, has planned to design Ternate as a tourism city in Indonesia, as cited by Antara News.
"The central governments commitment to turning Ternate into a tourism city is proven through the allocation of funds in significant amounts to revitalize Fort Oranje in the city center," Mayor Burhan Abdurrahman stated.
Burhan pointed out that as a historical city, Ternate has a variety of excellence in the field of tourism, and thus, the city administration is committed to making tourism as one of the leading sectors in North Maluku province.
According to the mayor, the central government has fully supported the Ternate city administrations efforts to develop the tourism sector, particularly in the city and generally in the province.
Therefore, he noted that the funds obtained from the central government will be spent on the revitalization of Fort Oranje, built by the Dutch in 1607.
He noted that the revitalization of Fort Oranje was part of the local administrations efforts to design Ternate as a tourism city in North Maluku.
"Ternate is also part of the Indonesian Heritage Cities Network (JKPI) and therefore various efforts to optimize the tourism potential in the city should be supported by all parties," Burhan pointed out

Rupiah on Steady Downtrend

Rupiah on Steady Downtrend

Thursday, 22 May, 2014 | 14:54 WIB
TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The market's disappointment over political parties' coalition ahead of the presidential elections has sank the rupiah deeper. In yesterday's money market transaction, the rupiah fell 19 points (0.16 percent) to Rp11,508 per US dollar, marking a three-day downtrend with a correction of more than 100 basis points (bps).
Bank International Indonesia (BII) economist Juniman said investors were left dissatisfied with yesterday's results of presidential and vice presidential candidates' coalition. "It led to profit taking in rupiah-denominated assets, from stocks to bonds markets."
Golkar's sudden decision to move closer to the Prabowo-Hatta pair caused imbalance in the parliament's coalition support. The coalition of parties supporting Prabowo-Hatta has 292 seats in parliament, while the Joko Widodo-Jusuf Kalla pair only managed to grab 207 seats.
Golkar's decision was responded negatively by the market; not because investors favor Jokowi, but because the strong support for Prabowo in the DPR will make the administration rate ineffective—even if Jokowi becomes president. "Ever since Golkar officially announced its support for Prabowo, stock prices and the rupiah rate have fallen," said Juniman.
Today the rupiah is expected to remain weak, moving between Rp11,450 and Rp11,550 per US dollar. "The fading sentiment from the elections will prompt the market to be cautious and take the safe position," said Juniman.
